Vorrei un.......

We convinced Simona this morning that we could find the school unaccompanied, although she looked doubtful.  Everyone arrived in a timely manner and we spent two hours at work, while the sounds of someone's musical scales wafted up the stairwell.

The Communist Union is striking this morning

Our outing this morning will take us back to the Piazza della Repubblica where we will order a snack in Italian and then relax and enjoy it on the sunny terrace.  There was quite an array of pastry from which to choose.  Our instructors keep up the Italian conversation until all the cappuccinos are drained.

Those taking the Art and Architecture track have only a short walk to their afternoon meeting at the Baptistry and the rest of us are free.  We had some lofty ideas of museum tours but decided to visit La Rinascente, the Florentine department store, so time got away from us.  Five floors of lovely goods, topped by a rooftop terrace with beautiful views of the Duomo and bell tower.

Now Rigmor wanted to find some landmarks recommended to her by her employer in Florida so we set off by the river and found another leather shop.  While Rigmor is trying on reversible coats, so soft that they should named and petted, I have finally found some guy belts to my liking.  Giovanni cuts them to size and screws all the hardware in...quite a production.

We turn at the Ponte Santa Trinita onto Via Tornabuoni in search of an old hotel of the same name.  Sure enough we find it and the staff allows us in and up to the floors to take some pictures, likely because we mentioned we used to stay here (in our dreams).  It is a lovely old world place with black and white checkered floors, graceful palms and glittering light fixtures.  I'm sure her employer will enjoy a visit down memory lane through the photos.

Unfortunately, we got totally turned around leaving this street and somehow ended up at the train station, which will undoubtedly come in handy someday should there be any train travel in our future.  We spring for 5 Euro fedoras. It is brilliantly sunny today and we would hate to undo our fine cosmetic treatment work of this morning.

All this backtracking sends us back to the Duomo.  While this is not our preferred destination, it is at least our go-to landmark so we are back on course.

After a stop to pick up our heavy books from the school for our homework, we stop into a small cafe.  There are no group activities planned tonight so we decide to have a light bite and skip dinner later.  I mean we did have cookies for lunch!  Vorremmo dividere tutto.....splitting everything worked very well.

Tomorrow our class is in the afternoon so we have planned to be more diligent and visit  Fra. Angelico in the Piazza San Marco and see the Great Synagogue of Firenze.

Italian BS of the day, another Luca-ism:  Think nothing of it..You are my prize!
